Circa 1994: The origin of King Shark (week!)
In 1994’s Superboy #9 we learned the mysterious origins of the half-human/half-shark Nanaue, better known as King Shark, son of the King of all Sharks.
Fraction achieves a level of eloquence that we can’t even begin to fathom…
(The quote is from here in case you were interested.)
Uh… We don’t think this one needs any commentary.
But if you really want some context it’s from Megalodon & Prehistoric Sharks from Zenescope…
Sometimes when you google “Shark Repellant” wonderful things happen.

Don’t worry Edestus, it’s not like I ever planned on going into the ocean ever again…
PS: The book that this is from, Megalodon & Prehistoric Sharks from Zenescope, is kind of amazing and ridiculous and I’m sure you’ll be seeing more from it soon because Shark Week.
Shane’s Picks of the Week (8/07/13)
- PICK OF THE WEEK: Deadpool Kills Deadpool #2- I love the cover on this, and I unabashedly love deadpool, so there.
- The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #2 - The first issue was great. It had that sardonic tone that has made Hawkeye so popular while still feeling like something fresh. Highly recommended.
- Satellite Sam #2 - First off, I have a huge mancrush on Matt Fraction, so of course SatSam is on my list. Second off, this book seems like nothing I’ve ever read before. If Mad Men were a comic book but about TV and had more lace and murder?
- Sheltered #2 - I love the “Pre-Apocalyptic” concept and the first issue ended on a really exciting note.
Shane is the marketing assistant at comiXology and is apparently a huge fan of #2 issues.
NEW COMIC DAY! HIGH(est) FIVE!
Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark #1, June 2010, cover by Ryan Ottley and Jason Howard
I didn’t know how badly I could want to read something until I saw this.
That one time Carol Danvers hit a shark WITH ANOTHER SHARK
Shark week is here people! And we are excited.
It’s lumpin August already!?
Also, how rad is this Adventure Time Summer Special variant cover by Chew’s Rob Guillory?
Shane’s Picks of the Week (7/31/13)
- PICK OF THE WEEK: Collider #1 - You had me at “Federal Bureau of Physics.” Also the cover reminds me of Jet Set Radio, does anyone remember that game?
- Adventure Time: 2013 Summer Special - What I wouldn’t give for a JakeTent of my very own…
- Captain Marvel #14 - The end of The Enemy Within event. Hope yr brain is okay, Carol!
- The Wake #3 - Two words: Aquatic Primates. Also: Undersea Monsters. Also: Scott Snyder.
Shane is the marketing assistant and is wondering if anyone can lend him their copy of Jet Set Radio.
