Obi-Wan and Anakin #1

Anakin Skywalker is leaving the Jedi Order. No, wait, this isn’t the story you know, this is the one that happened an even longer time ago, in a galaxy we know all too well. It is several years after Obi-Wan Kenobi pledged to teach Anakin the ways of the Force, and young Skywalker is restless. He trains incessantly. He asks too many questions. He programs a practice module to fight like the Sith Lord who slew his friend Qui-Gon, and the ghostly not-quite-right interpretation of Darth Maul haunts the Jedi Masters who observe.

Far away in the depths of space, a distress signal is heard, and Obi-Wan and his angry charge are dispatched to aid whoever sent out the call. The planet they arrive at is a swirl of chaos and light. There is a fight; there is a war. There are never enough answers. All the Jedi can do is help those they can, and it’s not enough for Anakin. (It will never be enough for Anakin).

“He was a good friend,” Obi-Wan Kenobi said of Anakin in A New Hope. Here, in Charles Soule’s stellar words and Marco Chechetto’s unbelievably gorgeous art, I believe we will see what he meant.
