EXIT STAGE LEFT: THE SNAGGLEPUSS CHRONICLES #1

It’s 1953. While the United States is locked in a nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union, the gay Southern playwright known as Snagglepuss is the toast of Broadway. But success has made him a target. As he plans for his next hit play, Snagglepuss becomes the focus of the House Committee on Un-American Activities. And when powerful forces align to purge show business of its most subversive voices, no one is safe!

We’ve got this music sale going on right now (50% off these titles with the code MUSIC), so I thought it would be cool to randomly pull some records off my shelf and try to figure which comics they’d make a good soundtrack to.  It’s fun (and you should send in your own suggestions).

First up is Flaunt It! by Sigue Sigue Sputnik.  Even though it’s from the 80′s, this record still feels pretty fresh.  It mixes up genres- synth pop, punk rock, dub and dance music, in a way that’s not just a mish-mash, it feels pretty organic.  It’s also very satirical, with ads playing between the songs, which themselves poke fun at the U.S. Military and corporate institutions.  There’s just a lot of STUFF compacted into this one record.

Because of all of this, I think it would make a great soundtrack to DC’s new PREZ comic, which is also colorful and busily designed and satirical and upbeat with an edge to it.

What do you think, thumbs up or down?  And what are your music/comic pairings?  Hit up our ask box.

PREZ has a more sustainable political philosophy than pretty much any of the current presidential candidates. Comic books: 1, Reality: 0
