Next up is Boss, by the Magik Markers.  I tend to this of this as a fairly “new” record, even though it’s nearly 10 years old by now.  It’s got a really raw, almost feral sound, like a stripped down and scarier Sonic Youth.  At the same time though, it’s punctuated with moments of tenderness and vulnerability.

Because of this, I think it would make a great reading soundtrack to Ed Brisson and Johnnie Christmas’s survival horror comic SHELTERED.  Like the Magik Markers, Sheltered can be raw as hell, genuinely nerve wracking and even terrifying, but it’s also not without heart and contemplative moments between the raging torrents of violence its characters rain down upon one another.
