The son of a lighthouse keeper, Arthur Curry initially enjoyed a peaceful life with his father on the surface. This all changed when the media learned of the existence of Aquaman. Their reports drew the attention of Black Manta, a hunter whose obsession with Atlantean treasures led to the death of Curry’s father. Escaping the world above, the man took his rightful place as the king of Atlantis. After a few years, he returned to the surface, guarding the ocean shores and protecting both worlds, though he felt at home in neither one. Aquaman was extremely resilient in combat. He wielded a trident to great effect, possessed the ability to breathe underwater, and could communicate telepathically with most forms of aquatic life.
