With The Manhattan Projects up for Best Continuing Series this year, Nick Pitarra was kind enough to dish a few fun secrets about his life as a creator. Some of his answers may surprise you…
1. When were you first inspired to make comics and what book set you on the path to becoming a creator?
I met someone going to the Kubert school back in high school & was blown away that he could draw out of his head & was inspired to draw. I fell in love with The Authority and Frank Quitely’s art.
2. If you weren’t making comics right now, what other occupation would you most like to see yourself in?
I have a degree in Art Education, so I’d probably be passing out crayons to 8 year olds.
3. If you could have dinner with any other comic creator living or dead, who would it be and why?
Moebius, because his art means everything in terms of influences, style, sense of space, detail, and design. His work is amazing.
4. If you could GIVE an Eisner award to another creator working today who would it be and why?
Tradd Moore. His work is pure comic book fun, Art Adams-esque ability mixed w Manga. I haven’t seen his name in any categories and it’s a major oversight.
5. If you do win, where are you going to keep the award?
Over on my book shelf , next to my custom made Masonic Truman hat from The Manhattan Projects!
