You probably should have mentioned to that writer who has been percolating on an idea for 2 yrs that the best way to find an artist to draw their story is to offer a page rate. Hire an artist. That doesn't sound like a collab effort if the writer already has 2 years of planning. That sounds like a writer who needs to hire an artist for money to draw their story. There IS a difference and advice like what you gave is what makes writers think artists are chomping to draw other peoples stories.

Totally valid point- there are a lot of different kinds of collaborations you can have with artists, and a lot of different kinds of artists at different levels of experience.  You might find someone who shares your vision and who you feel comfortable forming a creative partnership, or, as this poster suggests, you might want to retain as much creative control as possible and hire someone to draw your comic for you.  Not everyone is able or willing to work for free and, of course, every artist deserves compensation (and recognition) for their efforts.
