Since you've suggested a "where to start" list for Marvel, what about a list for DC? Thanks.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m actually not a huge continuity stickler. Yes there have been a lot of incredible books surrounding characters in the past - of course there have been - but if you’re actually new to comics and just want to get into DC characters you can definitely just pick up any of the New52 #1’s.

If you’re not sure about what the New52 is, read this.

The issues are only 99¢ each so you can easily pick up a couple and see which ones you like. Once you discover a character and feel comfortable reading comics you can make a much deeper dive into that characters history.

Here’s a list of a bunch of the New52 first issues. A few I recommend are:

  • Batman by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
  • Wonder Woman by Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang
  • Aquaman Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis
  • Batgirl by Gail Simone and Adrian Syaf
  • Batwoman by W. Haden Blackman and J.H. Williams
  • Animal Man by Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman
  • Swamp Thing by Scott Snyder and Yanick Paquette

If you want to dig back a little deeper DC has a line called DC essentials which are the first issues of classic runs for 99¢ as well. You can see some of them on this list.

I’m sure people are going to have a lot of feels and be mad at me about this one so just look at the notes for differing opinions.
