Thanks for writing in. You’re right, there is SO MUCH backstory out there and for a new reader it can be really overwhelming. 

IMHO, you can just start with any of the Marvel NOW branded series and go from there. Once you get comfortable reading comics and figure out who your new favorite characters are you can go back and read older comics featuring them and flesh out more of their history. 

I put together this really quick list that will link you to some starting points for different Marvel characters. Just click through to the series and start at #1! If you have any requests for reading lists for specific characters I will do my best to throw one together for you.

UPDATE: nocturnal-knight said: Daredevil (2011-2014) and then the current volume of Daredevil, both by Mark Waid. She-Hulk + Storm is amazing. When it comes to the Asgardians, you’d have to ask an expert, there’s so much stretching far back right now even in the reboots. (I added these to the list… and also Superior Foes of Spider-Man because it’s great)
